Hand letter written to Sybil (Sorella Friedlander) from her cousin in Liepāja, Latvia. Sybil was the daughter of Wulf and Johanna Friedlander (nee Hermer). The letter is not dated. It describes the despair and difficulties experienced during World War II 'we European people who have so dreadful to suffer by the awful...Mussolini & Hitler...the people of Holland, Belgium and France who...to be burnt or killed by...the Germans. Many Liepāja Jewish families and their friends were totally wiped out in the Holocaust, leaving nobody to remember their names. Only about 1500 were recorded at Yad Vashem by 1998 of the more than 6500 Liepāja Jews who perished in WWII. A database of Victims and Survivors of Liepāja Jews in WWII has recovered 93% of the names.
