A publication by Temple Israel. It related to established of the Rabbi Dr David and Bertha Sherman Foundation, in honour of Rabbi Dr David Sherman's 90th Birthday and over 50 years of service to the Cape Town Progressive Jewish Congregation. Extracts from letters of congratulation on Rabbi Sherman's 90th birthday were published. The two photographs are of 'Archbishop Desmond Tutu was prestigiously awarded by Austen Beutel (right) at the Gala Dinner in Cape Town during the World Union for Progressive Judaism Convention in May 1997. On the left is Rabbi Richard Hirsch' and ' Rabbis Richard Block, President of WUPJ, Levi Kelman of Jerusalem and David Sherman were together to celebrate Rabbi Sherman's 90th Birthday in Jerusalem'.

A publication of Temple Israel. It related to Rabbi Dr David Sherman who had served the community for 48 years. The photograph labelled' Rabbi Sherman honoured' was of Rabbis David Sherman, Moses Cyrus Weiler, Jack Steinhorn and David Hoffman. The caption "Over 50 years service to Reform Judaism and Cape Town's community' is flanked by two photographs - one of Rabbi Jack Steinhorn and David Sherman and the other of Rabbi David Sherman signing copies of his book Judaism Confronts Modernity. Regarding the David Sherman Lectures which were inaugurated in 1971, there are three photographs of people who delivered the address - Lova Eliav, noted Israeli Statesman and author (1995), Rabbi Richard Hirsch and Dr Daniel Ncayiyana, editor of the SA Medical Journal and Deputy Vice Chancellor of UCT (1998) whose family are members of Temple Israel.
