The South African Jewish Museum's archives (SAJM) Jewish Digital Archive Project is the digital component of the SAJM archive. It aims to maintain a record of Southern Africa's social, economic and political history. JDAP comprises personal narratives and special collections linked to organizations, local communities, and cultural events.

This photograph was one of 8 photographs taken by Hymie Barsel which were sent to his wife Esther Barsel in Barberton Prison. She was a member of the South African Communist Party. In 1964 she was arrested and subsequently tried with 13 others in the Bram Fischer Treason Trial. In 1965 she was sentenced to three years imprisonment at Barberton Prison from 1965-1967. This photograph was taken at a private function organised by Ahmed Kathrada for Mandela's 90th birthday in July 2008 at the Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg.
