The South African Jewish Museum's archives (SAJM) Jewish Digital Archive Project is the digital component of the SAJM archive. It aims to maintain a record of Southern Africa's social, economic and political history. JDAP comprises personal narratives and special collections linked to organizations, local communities, and cultural events.
A framed photograph of the Mea Shearim Yeshiva and Talmud Torah in the Mea Shearim quarter of Jerusalem which was established in 1885. The head of the yeshiva was Rabbi Yosef Gershon Horowitz, one of the leaders of the Mizrachi movement. During the British Mandate, the building served as the headquarters of Mizrahi in Jerusalem. There are the inscriptions 'Adr.: Commite d. Jeschiwa Talmud-Torah' and 'Mea-Schearim Jerusalem (Palästina)'.
Photograph of Rebecca Schamroth (nee Opeskin) and her first cousin Yitzchak Ofek. This photograph was taken in Israel in 1959. Their fathers were brothers - Boris Opeskin and Izrael Opeskin. Yitzchak's parents and 3 younger siblings perished in the Holocaust. He went to Palestine and changed his surname from Opeskin to Ofek. He and his family lived on Kibbutz Ramat Yohanan. The name of the Kibbutz "Height of Yohanan," commemorates the South African Prime Minister, General Jan (Yohanan) Smuts who was a prominent supporter of Zionism.
