Newspaper article, which appeared in The Zionist Record dated Friday March 9, 1956 whereby Mr Sam Caplan welcomed the pilot, who flew the first direct flight on a D.C.6 aircraft, from Lydda, Tel Aviv, Israel to Jan Smuts Airport, Johannesburg. Photographed from left to right are Mr E.Eylon, Consul General for Israel, Mr S. Combard, commercial manager of U.A.T, the Israeli pilot, Mr Norman Lourie who arrived on the plane and Mr S, Caplan.

Photograph of Heyman Shochet and his two daughters, Irene Meltzer (nee Shochet) and Miriam 'Chookie' Marcus (nee Shochet). Heyman Shochet emigrated to South Africa from Rokiškis, Lithuania and settled in Parys, Orange Free State. He married Gerty Minnie Levin on the 19th June 1921 in Johannesburg. The family lived in Parys and they had five children, 3 sons Solly, Sidney and Elijah and 2 daughters Irene and Miriam. Source: Granddaughter Kathy Kransdorff, Johannesburg.
