Yamina K. Oliver, "By the beach"

Photograph of a group of soldiers on the espalade in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Accompanying caption: "The esplanade at Tel Aviv. The beach is below this. The ship you see in the background brought refugees from Germany. They were refused permission to land, but being in such terrible flight they forced the captain to run his ship on to the beach. Some were able to swim ashore but the majority were taken off and put into internment camps. After 6 months some were permitted to stay, and some were sent to Mauritius. There was room in the country for all but the administation disgracefully refused to give them refuge. The soldiers are Aussies on the spree."

Yamina K. Oliver, Untitled 4

Photograph of a city scene in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Accompanying caption: "Just outside Tel Aviv, I saw the valley in which [Allenby] fought the Turks in 1917, and where[,] thousands of years ago[,] Joshua fought the Cananites." "Allenby Road."

Yamina K. Oliver, Untitled 5

Aerial style photograph of a city scene in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Accompanying caption: "Note the very old style of architecture. Twenty five years ago all this was sand dunes and desert. Tel Aviv was built entirely by Jewish labour with Jewish capital and is inhabited solely by Jews. It is strange seeing Jewish shoe-shine boys and street sweepers, but Palestin[ian] work, no matter of what type[,] is honourable, thus eliminating social discrimination."
"Ben Jehuda Road (from a different angle)"

Yamina K. Oliver, Untitled 8

Photograph of the centre of Tel Aviv, Israel.
Accompanying caption: "This is in the centre of Tel-Av[iv]. Note the very modern buildings. There are very few houses as most people live in flats or hotels. Most of the bigger hotels have their own cabarets[,] which are gay and most enter[taining]. The patrons nowadays are mainly military folk[,] as 11,000 of the Palestinian youth are [i]n service." "Dizengoff Square"
