Photograph of the tombstone of Miriam Ruthenberg (nee Yudelman) (1893 -1918). She died from the Spanish Influenza in Witbank. She was survived by her husband Solomon Yudelman and daughter Beryl aged 6 months. Her sister, Ethel Solomon (nee Yudelman) also died of the Spanish Influenza. The two sisters died a day apart in Witbank, Transvaal. The sisters were survived by their parents Hyman Dov Yudelman ( 1865-1936) and Bertha Yudelman (nee Farber) (1854 -1936). Photograph of the death certificate of Leonard Luxenberg (1893-1918), an electrician. His parents were Samuel Luxenberg and Sarah Luxenberg. He and his sister, Rowena Abrahams (nee Luxenberg) (1886-1918) both died during 'Black October' and they are buried in the Braamfontein Cemetery, Johannesburg. Source: South African Archives

Spanish flu, "Photograph of the tombstone of Jacob Mordechai Mirvish"

Photograph of the tombstone of Jacob Mordechai Mirvish (1893-1918), poet and chemist's assistant. He was the son of Rabbi Moses Chaim Mirvish (1872 -1947) and Seine Mirvish (1871-1941) and died of influenza in Cape Town. His father was the Rabbi of the Cape Town Orthodox Hebrew Congregation, and wrote two important books in Hebrew, the first of which was dedicated to his deceased son, “Zichron Yakov” (In memory of Jacob) and was published in 1924. Jacob Mirvish is buried in the 7th Ave Cemetery, Maitland, Cape Town.

Photograph of the Isserman Brodheim wedding, Antwerp, Belgium, 1894. The bride Betty Brodheim (1872-1955) was the daughter of Samuel and Rosa Brodheim (nee Meister). Her family were from Przemysl, Austria and moved to Antwerp, Belgium between 1888 and 1891. Alexander Isserman was the son of Meyer Isser and Frume Guta Isserman (nee Strull). He was born in Russia. They were married in Antwerp in 1894. All the family members were registered with the Antwerp City Police as foreign nationals residing in the city. Photographed sitting from left to right are Rosa Brodheim (nee Meister), Alexander Isserman, Betty Isserman (nee Brodheim), Samuel Brodheim, Raphael Taub, eldest son of Judel and Ernestine (Esther) Taub (nee Brodheim). Photographed standing from left to right are Jeannette Kornreich (nee Brodheim), Mr Birnbaum, Ascher Brodheim, Judel Taub, Ernestine (Esther) Taub (nee Brodheim) and Henri Brodheim. Photograph of Rachel Keile (Rochel Kayla) Fleish (c1887-1949), daughter of Movsha and Zilpah Fleish (nee Hoff). The family lived in Šeduva (Shadeve) Lithuania and there were six children. The family was listed in the Tax and Voters list of Šeduva in the postal savings bank records, which documents a deposit of 5 rubbles for 4 of the children by their father Movsha, son of Chaim. Rapeport Family, "The Account of the Estate of Jetta Rapeport 1"

Document from the estate of the late Jetta Rapeport (formerly Fleischer nee Sebasewitz) dated the 12th October 1895. It notes that a circular sent to Mr Rapeport was returned unclaimed. He was resident in Johannesburg at that time, and had married the widow, Louisa Ettin (nee Kantor) on the 23rd June 1895 in Johannesburg. A list of articles bequeathed to Rosa Fleischer, a minor child of Jetta Rapeport (formerly Fleischer nee Sebasewitz) in terms of a will made by her mother and Louis Rapeport, dated the 13th June 1894. Jetta Rapeport died a month later. Her daughter was 2 1/2 years old. She was the daughter of Jacob Fleischer (1863-1892) who had died two years prior.
