Jewish Government Schools Collection

The Jewish Government Schools Photographic Collection consists mainly of school photographs taken of various sports teams and classes. These range from boys’ rugby teams to girls’ netball teams, coachs appear in the photographs, and captions are added of team, year, and students and staff involved. Also present within the collection is a newspaper article concerning the renaming of the school itself, and an image of students and a teacher in class.

Mr A Arenson was the headmaster of the primary school from 1940 to 1956.

Jewish Government Schools, "Awards Ceremony"

Photograph of pupils of the Jewish Government School at an awards ceremony with Mrs Freda Feldman (nee Ginsberg) (1910-1987), wife of Richard Feldman. Her husband was an emigrant from Lithuania who had previously attended the school. He was active in politics and was elected to the Transvaal Provincial Council in 1943, as Labour representative for Johannesburg City, a seat he held for eleven years. He and his wife became active in developing ORT in South Africa.
