Photograph of Esther Barsel and the former South African President, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. She was a member of the South African Communist Party. In 1965 she was sentenced in the Bram Fischer Treason Trial to 3 years imprisonment at Barberton Prison, followed by house arrest for 5 years. This photograph was taken at a private function organised by Ahmed Kathrada for Mandela's 90th birthday in July 2008 at the Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg.

Photograph of the 80th birthday cake for Comrade Esther (Esther Barsel) who was a member of the Communist Party. A party in her honour was thrown by the South African Communist Party, in Johannesburg in 2004. The cake has the emblem of the party on the right hand corner and the icing is coloured red.
