Scope and content

Interview by Jonathan Ancer with Steven Isacowitz about Steven's father Jock Isacowitz. Steven Isacowitz gets very emotional when remembering his father Jock Isacowitz. Jock was the head of the Springbok Legion, a member of the Torch Commando and a key figure in the Liberal Party. He died of leukemia when Steven was only 6. Steven has spent many years on a quest in search of the infamous father who he never knew. Steven would pore through historical books and go through their indexes to learn about his father's story. This led to his becoming a "totally well informed armchair liberal". But for Steven, the most emotionally sad part of the story is that his father Jock's contribution has been largely forgotten. Growing up, Steven would be asked about his father by the Jewish community, who respected him as a pillar of virtue. Today, the name Jock Isacowitz is largely unacknowledged. Sadly, this was partly done by design, where his political discussions were deliberately not recorded at meetings.
