These kinds of houses were popular amongst Jewish people and in these small towns, and were often used to house both people and animals. Photograph of hundreds of people gathered in the market square of Panevezys for a political meeting. The crowd consists of men, women, and children. The majority of these people, comprising a few hundred, are facing away from the camera and looking towards the speaker/leader of the meeting who is elevated on a podium. There is a smaller group of people, approximately 50 people, including adults and children, who are facing the camera, and who are standing behind the larger group that are facing the speaker. Around the perimetre of the market square and the gathering of people, there are some uniformed guards. There is snow on the ground, and the group are all dressed warmly, suggesting this meeting took place in winter. A 'viesbutis' (Lithuanian for 'hotel') can be seen across the road from the market square where the people are gathered. The photograph is blurred, suggesting there was movement when it was being taken.

Mr Berger donated this Series of photographs - among others in the Collection - to the SAJBOD Archives in 1988 after having moved to Johannesburg. The back row, from left to right, includes an officer leaning on a brick boulder, two officers lying on top of the boulder, and one offcer sitting on the edge of the boulder with his arms crossed and his hat next to him. The front row includes the remaining four officers, including Mr Berger, perched on the step of the boulder, with the officer on the far left sitting with crossed arms and crossed legs.
