Photograph of the front of the British War Medal awarded to Pvt Victor Kaplan, who died at the age of 23 during World War I combat at Delville Wood in 1916. From 26 July 1919 onwards, the United Kingdom granted this campaign medal to those who served overseas during the war (5 August 1914 to 11 November 1918) or participated in certain war-related efforts up until 1920. The engraving on the medal depicts King George V, who was King of the United Kingdom and British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 1910 until 1936.
