Walter Leslie Francois Hatchuel was the youngest of 5 children. He was born in Paris, France to a Spanish Moroccan father and a Polish mother. His formative years were spent in England, and at age twelve, his family moved to Johannesburg.
After completing high school at Maritz Brothers College, he attended the University of the Witwatersrand Medical school. He specialized in Paediatrics, worked in private practice and at hospitals. He also worked as a medical director for Pfizer pharmaceuticals, and as a GP .
He married Rica Levitan, and together they had three children. He lived and worked in Johannesburg until 1986. He then emigrated with his wife, Rica, to Toronto. After ten happy years in Canada, he moved to Israel, where he spent his retirement.
Walter was one of the most positive individuals you could meet, and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
He is sorely missed by his family and friends [Dr Ilana Davis].
